McPappy Racing brushless chassis dyno

McPappy Racing have released their new brushless chassis dyno. The dyno can provide 5 styles of testing including chassis dyno testing, direct coupler in between both motors, direct coupler with flywheel in between both motors, offset motors using 2 pinions and offset motors using 2 pinions + flywheel. Chassis dyno testing offers the most convenience, as you simply set your car down on it and pull the trigger. This convenience allows you to try many variations and find the power you want quicker. You can also share numbers with other racers (regardless if the speedo and motor are different) to get the power dialed in very quickly. The chassis dyno can accommodate most 1/10th, 1/12th, and 1/18th, RC pan cars, dirt oval cars, touring cars (with front wheels propped up), buggies, etc. Direct ‘motor only’ testing is a bit more work to set up, but it provides an additional level of precision because it removes some more variables.  If you are looking to find small differences, direct ‘motor only’ testing can be worth the effort. Whichever test method you are using, your overall goal is to turn the slave motor as fast as you can with the least amount of amps.

Martin Crisp takes Canadian On-Road Champs

Last weekend was the annual Canadian On-Road Championships which is uniquely held in a shopping mall with the intent of further exposing the hobby to hopefully attract more drivers. Martin Crisp filed this report. “This event was put on by a longtime friend of mine, Mark Frechette, and has been growing year over year.  The space limitations of the mall meant the track would be small and technical, but I have always like technical tracks. Even though this is a Canadian Championship race we had some fast USA drivers like Mike Haynes, Dave Johnson and others join us to make this a bit of a Can-Am challenge. The small track and driver line-up made for some great qualifying and racing.

Romain Picard wins French 1/8th national opener

The opening round of the French 1/8th on road national championships was held in Neuville le Poitou last weekend. There weer 30 drivers in the Elite Class and 47 in the National Class and dry but cold and windy conditions greeted all the drivers. In qualifying for the Elite class it was former World Champion Adrien Bertin that took the pole position ahead of Stéphane Bouche in 2nd, while in the National class it was Nicolas Rosado with the fastest time. Adrien Bertin once again failed to make it into the final after problems in the semi final. At the start of the Elite final there was a close battle between Romain Picard and reigning French champion Arnaud Mathieu, but Arnaud retires after only a few minutes after an engine flame out. Stephane Bouche would take second position just behind the leader but he too hit problems. In the end it was Mugen racer Romain Picard that took the win.
