Paul Lemieux wins Reedy ROC

Paul Lemieux wins Reedy Invitational

Last weekend saw the Reedy Race of Champions run at NorCal Hobbies Raceway in Union City close to San Francisco. The highlight of this annual event is the Invitational class which pitches the top invited drivers to battle it out head to head in a series of races with points awarded for finishing position in each race. Your best 6 of 8 results count and the driver with lowest number wins. This year’s race attracted current World Champion Marc Rheinard, together with TRF team mate Viktor Wilck, as well as Juho Levanen and Thomas Pumpler from Europe. The US was also well represented with Paul Lemieux, Josh Cyrul and Tyler Vik, along with Canadian Keven Hebert in attendance. A strong series of races for both Wilck and Lemieux saw them heading the table after the first day with 3 wins and a 2nd place a piece with Rheinard sitting in 3rd with 3 wins and a 3rd spot. On the Sunday Lemieux carried on where he left off with 3 more wins and a 3rd spot to take the Invitational class win, ahead of Levanen in 2nd with 3 wins and a 2nd place on the final day, while Rheinard took 3rd spot overall with a win two 2nd’s and a 3rd spot on the Sunday. That 3rd place in his last final was to be decider, having passed Paul for the lead the World Champ made a rare mistake, clipping a curb and hitting the outside wall which allowed both Paul and Juho through and any chance of victory slip out of his grasp.

Rain stops play at Worlds Warm-up

The Worlds warm-up race took place last weekend in Burgdorf, home to this year’s 1/10th ISTC and 1/12th IFMAR World Championships. Entries were low, but there were a lot of Japanese drivers in attendance including ETS Rd5 winner Atsushi Hara, Shin Adachi and a large team from Yokomo including Hayato Matsuzaki. Qualifying went the way of Ronald Volker, the runner up at the last Worlds in Thailand, winning 4 of the 6 rounds of qualifying to start ahead of team mate Hayato Matsuzaki, who won the other 2 rounds. Jilles Groskamp, Andy Moore, Alexander Hagberg, Takehiro Yamauchi, Shin Adachi, Atsushi Hara, Christopher Krapp and Freddy Sudhoff completed the A-finalists. Sunday’s finals day was a complete wash out, raining all day which meant that almost no drivers ventured onto the track. In the A-main Alexander Hagberg was the only person to go on track and so claimed the ‘victory’, based on the qualifying order Volker took 2nd and Matsuzaki was gifted 3rd.
