Smokem Racing 416LP chassis plate

Smokem Racing 416LP chassis plate

Smokem Racing have developed a LiPo only chassis for the Tamiya TRF416 series of touring cars. By flipping the drive belts, the LiPo is offset further from the chassis center line, while on the other side, the servo, receiver and ESC are shifted towards the center line. Two battery positions are provided so racers can choose where they want to position their LiPo pack and the result is a balanced chassis with no additional weights required. The 416LP chassis has been designed and thoroughly tested to give the best flex properties and at only 94mm wide, chassis scrub is minimized. Unnecessary cutouts were removed to deliver a design with balanced lateral flex and the result is awesome corner speed and stability. With both longitudinal and lateral battery tape slots, the Smokem Racing LP chassis accepts all LiPos, with or without humps, without additional retainers that may induce tweak.

Shepherd Velox V10 & V8 options

Shepherd Velox V10 & V8 options

New for the Velox V10, Shepherd have released a full set of shock absorber springs. The light green standard springs are included in the kit, while the dark green springs are a little bit harder and the grey springs a little bit softer. This allows to fine-tune the V10 accordingly to different tracks. Also new are the softer floating piston springs that are available for the Velox V10 and the Velox V8. They create less rebound for an overall softer shock absorber setup by having more coils compared to the standard one. As many drivers requested a harder servo saver spring for the V10 for high grip conditions this spring is now available as an optional part. Still protecting the servo from being damaged it offers more pressure on the servo saver. The existing range of pinions for the Velox V10 Competition Clutch is now completed by a 16T pinion for the first gear. This suits very small tracks where a lot of power from the bottom is needed an joins the previously available 17T and 18T pinions for the first gear and 21T, 22T and 23T for the second gear. To adjust the off-set at the Velox V8 several shims are needed. Shepherd have extended the already existing range of shims by a new 12x16x05mm version and are preferably used with 12x18x5mm bearings so they don’t touch the outer ball bearing ring. Finally, they have created a new decal sheet for the Velox V8. These new decals are included in the kit and are available separately from now on and sport the “Velox V8” logo and the ram-head in different sizes.

Max Power XXL3 .12 engine

Max Power have introduced their 2010 .12 competition engine, the XXL3. The most noticeable difference is the new cooling head, which is much lighter than previous versions thanks to its new design and machined holes in the cooling fins, which helps the handling of the car by lowering the overall centre of gravity. Internally there is a new balanced crankshaft that has improved timing for better torque, while the carburetor is now supplied with aluminium venturis.

Tosolini & Swauger take victory at Florida Winternats

Tosolini & Swauger take victory at Florida Winternats

The 2010 Florida Winter Nationals are over and it was Sedan TQ Chris Tosolini that took the win in the 45 minute A-main, while in 1/8th scale it was class TQ Mike Swauger that also came out on top. Tosolini, who was driving the new Capricorn LAB-C01, was made work hard for his victory after stalling at the start, meaning he had to come back from 2 laps down to take the win. Made a little easier by drivers ahead of him making mistakes or flaming out, Chris’ outright pace was the deciding factor and when long time leader Ralph Burch started to run low on tires forcing him to change close to the end, Chris was able to get out in front and pull a 3 lap lead by the flag. Xray driver Ralph finished up in 2nd only 2 seconds ahead of a recovering DJ Apolaro, driving the Serpent 733. In 1/8th scale, Mugen driver Mike Swauger was able to convert his pole position into a 3 lap victory, with Serpent driver Paolo Morganti in 2nd and Italian racer Marco Vanni in 3rd. Like the Sedan final, it too was a race of attrition with only 5 drivers running at the end.

Tosolini TQs Sedan at 2010 Winternats

This week sees the annual Winternationals take place at the Ft. Myers track in Florida. Despite the international entry being down on previous years, the National entry is still pretty strong with a lot of the top saloon and 1/8th scale drivers in attendance. Making his US debut with the new Capricorn LAB C01, with Capricorn engines and tires, Chris Tosolini managed to stick it on the pole position running his fastest time in the final heat, which despite a touch with DJ Apolaro where he lost 2 seconds was still able to break the qualifying record by 3 seconds. Paolo Morganti with the Serpent 733 and Paul Lemieux with the Xray NT1 line up 2nd and 3rd, while Mike Swauger makes it 4 manufacturers in the top 4 as he lines up in 4th. In the 1/8th scale Open class it was Mike Swauger that took the pole position for Mugen, in front of the Serpent 966 pairing of Paolo Morganti in 2nd and DJ Apolaro in 3rd.
