Kerswell takes BRCA 19T Honours at Rd2

Kerswell takes BRCA 19T Honours in London

Last weekend saw the 2nd stop of the 19T BRCA Nationals take place, in great weather conditions, at the tricky West London track. In qualifying records were set and as the dust settled it was round 1 winner Chris Kerswell driving the Corally Phi that took pole position from his team mate Christopher Delves with Schumacher racer Russell Williams in 3rd.

The first leg saw both Chris’s battle it out for the lead, after Williams made a small mistake that dropped him back, with Delves finally taking the win after a small mistake by Kerswell in the closing stages of the final. In the 2nd leg Kerswell was able to pull away in the lead from the start, leaving all the action behind as Stuart Cann, Williams and Delves battled it out wit, though a small mistake from Williams meant he dropped to 4th, where he finished the leg, while Cann took the 2nd spot with Delves close behind in 3rd. This result gave Kerswell his second overall out of 2 rounds with team mate Delves in 2nd and Russell Williams in 3rd.

BRCA Touring Rubber and Truck class Rd3

BRCA Touring Rubber and Truck class Rd3

Report by Mark Christopher – The weekend of 13th and 14th May saw racers attend the fantastic Cotswold track, where they were greeted to a dry Saturday for open practice. Conditions cahnged however and Sunday saw the racers and crew welcomed by a cool damp morning and as everyone was setting up their pit areas the rain began to fall, leaving a damp slippery surface.

In the rubber class Mathew Thompson set TQ with his Serpent 720 showing his local knowledge of the track while in the trucks Craig Nutting got a clean run with his Team Magic car. By the end of round two of qualifying the rain was now showing no mercy and the track was covered in water, due to the design of the Cotswold track there were no deep puddles. Even so many drivers decided to wait for the finals and only a few ventured out to do a few laps to check their water proofing and tyre choice.

Darren Johnson wins BRCA 200mm Rd3

Darren Johnson wins BRCA 200mm Rd3

The third round of the British 1/10th 200mm Nationals took place last weekend at the fast flowing Halifax track and while Saturday saw only wet weather practise, for Sunday it was dry with the grip soming up, but only on the racing line. Spanish EFRA GP winner Darren Johnson took TQ running the new Team Magic G4+, just ahead of Serpent racer Mark Green with Chris Slater in 3rd. At the start of the main final everyone got away clean but Green had to pit early for an engine adjustment which left Darren leading closely followed by Mark Gilliland. Unfortunately Mark Gilliland had problems at his first fuel stop, so that put him down the order. Whilst the others had their troubles, Darren had a clean race which gave the Team Magic G4+ a debut win at the BRCA Nats, closely followed by Mark Green with young and impressive Kyle Branson in 3rd.

Rd2 of BRCA Mod Nats

Making it 2 in a row, Yokomo racer Chris Grainger has won the 2nd round of the BRCA Modified Nationals that were held last weekend at the Aldershot track. In qualifying, Chris had set the TQ time followed closely by HB team mates, World Champion Andy Moore in 2nd and Olly Jefferies in 3rd, a close battle that would continue into the first leg as the top three battled for the lead, with Chris, Andy and Olly all taking turns to lead the frantic first leg. A mistake by Olly dropped him back leaving Chris to chase Andy but despite his best efforts Chris had to give best to Andy in leg one. Leg two resulted in a win for Chris and combined with his FTD gave him the overall victory, with Andy in 2nd and Olly 3rd. This result consolidates Chris’s lead in the Championship as the season heads to Halifax for round 3.

Maarten van Lierop wins Rd2 of Dutch 200mm Nationals

Rd2 of Dutch 200mm Nationals

The second round of the Dutch 1/10th 200mm Nationals was run last weekend at the ultra fast Rucphen track, host of the first 2 rounds of the Dutch 1/8th scale National championship. Qualifying saw Serpent driver Jordy Blok take the top spot, but as the rain started to fall very few drivers decided to take part in the semi finals with only 4 racers running the first semi final and only 2 starting the 2nd semi final, meaning everyone had a good chance to make it through to the main event.

The start of the main final was delayed and due to the rain stopping, the track started to dry up but only it was only round 1 podium finisher Maarten van Lierop, driving for Xray, that took the gamble on a full dry weather setup which at the start of the final didnt look like it would pay off. As the track dried even more he started to turn decent laps and could then take the lead, eventually winning by 9 laps ahead of the Serpent duo of Ruud Schuitmaker and Bas Geurds who came home in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Hicklin wins Rd3 of UK 1/8th Nats

Hicklin wins Rd3 of UK 1/8th Nats

We were a bit slow off the mark with the result of the 3rd round of the BRCA 1/8th scale Nationals which took place last weekend at the ultra fast Tibshelf track. The event was hampered by wet weather which started just before qualifying and continued for the rest of the event. In the qualifying it was Serpent racer and round 1 and 2 winner Mark Green that took the top qualifying spot by just less than a lap ahead of team mate Richard Hicklin with Pete Hastings in 3rd, 1 second further back. In the main final the rain continued to fall and only 8 drivers took to the start with pole sitter Mark Green the first retirement after 1 lap. Andrew North led from the start but had some rain related problems after 10 minutes, as did most of the racers, and in the end it was Richard Hicklin that won the race by 2 laps from Pete Hastings with Tim Wood a distant 3rd, 14 laps further back.
