Available soon from HB is the D815 V2 1/8th nitro off-road buggy. The follow-up model of the IFMAR World Championship winning car includes a range of option parts such as an extended chassis plate that adds 4mm of length to the rear end to allow for a longer wheelbase while also shifting the weight distribution for improved stability especially in high-speed corners. Additionally also the standard chassis plate is included in the kit to make for a wider setup range from stock. Along with the +4mm chassis comes a +4mm centre driveshaft plus a range of other optional parts such as carbon fibre suspension inserts, additional carbon fibre camber plates for the rear hubs as well as the “high” rear wing mount and the #4 carbon fibre Ackermann plates that provide a different Ackermann angle for more all-round steering, especially on high-traction or very technical tracks.

3rd Reedy Race of Champions title for Volker

3rd Reedy Race of Champion title for Volker

Ronald Volker is the 2016 Reedy Race Champion, the Yokomo driver securing the title at the iconic touring car race for a third time as the tie breaker was required to give him the victory over Christopher Krapp.  The 19th running of Mike Reedy’s unique heads up racing format, it would end up an all German podium at Tamiya Raceway with outgoing champion Marc Rheinard completing the Top 3 in California.  While Volker would effectively lay claim to the famous Reedy Race trophy with a 2nd in the penultimate round of racing, there was still a mathematical chance that a 26-lap winning time from Krapp could secure the Tamiya driver the overall victory.  Krapp would deliver the win but couldn’t manage the required time confirming Volker as the new champion before the 2009 & 14 Champion completed his 12th & final race out of which he would spectacularly crash after a coming together with Rheinard.  The best non-European finisher would be Japan’s Akio Sobue who finished 4th ahead of the Ryan Cavalieri who upheld the host nations honours.

Milan Holthuis takes Dutch 200mm Nats Rd2 win

Milan Holthuis takes Dutch 200mm Nats Rd2 win

Genk in Belgium played host to the second round of the Dutch Nitro On-road Nationals. The weekend started off dry on Saturday and even the two opening qualifiers on Sunday would be held on a dry track but for round three the rain came. Daan Jacobs (Serpent) took the TQ from Capricorn driver Milan Holthuis while Roy Bakker (Shepherd) completed the top 3 result. Just in time for the main finals the rain poured down even more, making for tricky conditions in the double 20 minute finals. The opening leg then was won by Daan but as usual rain mixes things up quite heavily and so the second and decisive leg was a pretty entertaining affair. Milan would run into engine problems after it refused to run on water instead of fuel but when servo issues hindered Daan, Milan was able to grab the win meaning both would end tie on points. The tie-breaker then handed Milan a narrow win as he scored the faster run. Daan had to settle for second while newcomer Mark Been completed the top 3 result.

Thanks to Mark Holthuis for the report.

Alexandre Laurent wins at French EP On-road Nats Rd3

Alexandre Laurent wins at French EP On-road Nats Rd3

The third round of the French Electric On-road National Championship was held at the fast and flowing Ampuis track. In the Touring Modified class Thomas Vigneron dominated the free and controlled practice sessions on Friday and Saturday. But come the qualifiers the Team Magic driver ran into trouble with problems such as badly glued pre-mounted tyres and later a wrong tyre strategy, starting on old tyres while others used a fresh set. On Sunday though he was able to score two TQ runs in wet conditions to grab the pole position for the A-mains. For the finals the conditions got worse and the TQ holder ran into trouble with wrong setup decisions, allowing Alexandre Laurent (Xray) to take the win from runner-up, Thomas. Maxime Favrelle (Xray) would round out the podium in third.

Muchmore Impact Linear FD2 6400mAh LCG LiPo battery

Muchmore Impact Linear FD2 6400mAh LCG LiPo battery pack

Muchmore have introduced their new Impact Linear FD2 series LCG LiPo battery pack. Made from high performance 110C cells the battery is only 22.3mm tall, meaning its use will lower the car’s centre of gravity compared to the class-standard 25.1mm packs. With a capacity of 6400mAh it is good for the use in modified and stock classes alike and the weight of only 271g also reduces the vehicle’s overall weight, allowing to put weight where it is needed.

Cox Optima 2016 aluminium shock absorbers

Cox Optima 2016 aluminium shock absorbers

Cox have introduced oil-filled aluminium shock absorbers for Kyosho’s Optima 2016 1/10th 4WD buggy. Machined from aluminium and coming with a high-precision finish the shocks offer an increased oil volume and travel compared to the standard “red” shocks. Design-wise the dampers are oriented at Kyosho’s iconic “gold” shock absorbers and thus they are making a cool period-correct option part. The shocks are available as separate front and rear sets including springs and also as combo package including both the short front and long rear shocks.
