Lopez & Macia win Spanish Endurance Nationals

The Spanish 1/8th Nitro On-road Endurance Nationals were hosted by the Carsol club in Elche. The four hour Endurance race sees pretty simple rules with a limit of six sets of tyres and a 15 laps penalty for an extra set as well as 30 minute stints for 2-driver teams and 20 minute stints for 3-driver lineups. The race started in the afternoon and ended under floodlight to make for a very special atmosphere. Right before the start the team of Blanco and Sevilla ran into engine problems meaning they would loose around 15 minutes while up front Nacho Lopez and Pablo Macia set the early pace despite 5 minute fuel stints. In second place and on the same lap Alberto Alonso and Victor Gonzalez, on a 6 minute refuelling strategy, tried to keep up with the pace of the leaders. The team of Cuesta, Pastor and Revert would hold the third place in the opening stages.

Harley Yoshii doubles at Northwest Indoor Series

The opening round of the 2015/16 Northwest Indoor Series was hosted by Tacoma R/C Raceway in Tacoma, WA. Harley Yoshii would take the TQ in the Modified 2WD and Modified 4WD classes while Shane Borden came out fastest in the Pro Stock Buggy class. In the Mod 2WD mains Yohii took a dominant win in A1 but a third place in A2 meant the third and final A-main would bring the decision. The leg took off and with an uncharacteristic mistake out of Harley, so Ryan Matesa took the lead, making Harley charge hard the rest of the race, but ending up in second. It came down to a tie-breaker with Harley taking the overall by 0.8 seconds. In the Modified 4WD class Harley scored two tone-to-tone wins to grab his second title of the weekend. Elsewhere in the Pro Stock 2WD class, Shane decided to replicate Harley’s wins, taking the overall win with one final to spare.

Marco Kaufmann wins at Pegasus Masters

Marco Kaufmann wins at Pegasus Masters

The Pegasus Masters was held in Piding, Germany with 96 entries in four electric on-road classes. The track was made using the famous ETS carpet and the control tyre for the Touring classes was the Volante indoor tyre. In the Touring Modified class Marco Kaufmann (Xray) would dominate right from the start by coming out fastest after the practice and scoring round TQs in the first three qualifiers on Saturday. Despite posting the only 24 laps run the whole weekend Marco struggled on Sunday when Q4 and Q5 went to Xray teammate Tim Wahl. In the finals the fight was then on between Marco and Tim with the latter taking the win in the opening main following an early mistake of Marco. Kaufmann though stroke back with a win in A2, meaning the decision over the overall win would be made in the third and final A-main. From the tone both tried to open a gap on the field and due to the tight nature of the track overtaking was difficult and so Marco would hold the upper hand to take the win in A3 and with it the overall victory from Tim Wahl and Dominic Vogl (Yokomo).

Simon Kurzbuch TQs IFMAR 1/8th Worlds in Brazil

The 2015 IFMAR 1/8th Nitro On-road World Championships are taking place this week in Americana City, Brazil, around 160 kilometres away from Sao Paulo. The event attracted around 75 drivers, most of which are from Brazil and Argentina, to compete at the Zeca Elias high-speed track whose concrete barriers are not allowing for many mistakes to be made. So far the temperatures were hot all week, varying between 27 and 32 degrees Celsius but up until now the rain has passed the track daily, with only a small shower that caused a delay of round 5. Racing wise Swiss ace Simon Kurzbuch has pretty much dominated the qualifying which is run using the points system. On Wednesday Simon made a clean sweep by winning three of the three qualifiers and another round TQ in the fourth qualifier on Thursday as well as a second place in the final round, following a DNF in round five, cemented Simon’s overall TQ with Takaaki Shimo on the 2 spot and Dario Balestri rounding out the top 3. The lower finals are set for Friday with the quarter, semi and main final to be held on Saturday.
