Batlle sets pace at Philippine Masters

Robert Batlle is the top seed for the Philippine Masters, the factory Mayako driver topping the single round of controlled practice from Davide Ongaro on the challenging Manila track. With Race Director Scotty Ernst making the call to reduce the counting consecutive laps from the traditional 3 to 2 given the challenge of putting together 3 clean laps, Batlle’s best effort was 1:57.225 compared to the 1:58.176 of the race’s former Champion Ongaro. Sworkz Micha Widmaier made it an all European Top 3 followed by local driver Daniel Miranda with Australian Jackson Beale completing the Top 5 from fellow countryman Jak Parsey.

Philippine Masters – Track Focus

The Philippine Masters is back and is live in Manila today with a track best described as ‘challenging’.  Located in the capital city, the very 3D looking track is the creation of top Philippines driver Edward Sio, one of the people behind the Philippine Masters since its inception in 2015.  Having to move the track location a few hundred metres from its previous home, one of the stand out features of the move is the massive three story driver stand.  With the new track built during Covid restrictions, the reason for the massive structure was to meet the then guidelines on the spacing of people so each floor was used as pit area to ensure everyone was spaced apart.  Made from the same dirt of the original track, the build took 45-days.  Building the track to how Edward wanted it and rolling it to a flat surface, they then dug up around a foot into the top layer to allow for the all important bonding of final race surface.  Giving the 30 degree plus temperatures in Manila, just spraying the top layer would not last as the top layer would eventually break and reveal a dusty dry dirt.  Instead they soaked the loose 1-foot deep top layer with a mixture of molasses and glue before rolling to the finish they wanted.

Kobbevik makes it 3 in a row in Spring Cup

Schumacher driver Daniel Kobbevik made it 3 in a row at the fourth round of the indoor 2WD Buggy ‘Spring Cup’ hosted by Grimstad RC Klubb in Arendal, Norway.  The 18-year-old missed the opening round of the series, but the latest result moves him up to second in the overall standings behind the Team Associated of Halvor Gran who will have to drop a round once 5 of the 7 rounds have been completed. At Round 4, Kobbevik took the TQ with his LRP powered Cougar LD2 in front of Gran and Bastian Andreassen in third. Securing the win in the opening two Mains it was an early win for Kobbevik with his rivals going to A3 to decide the rest of the podium. Halvor had two second places and Bastian had two third places, and Jorgen Sohagen had two four places, so it was all about the win for all those guys. Unfortunately Bastian was unlucky and broke his car with Halvor taking the win while Jorgen Sohagen came second to put his Schumacher on the podium.

JConcepts Ford Bronco & Corvair Lakewood bodies

Two more RC crawler body releases from JConcepts with the Florida based company presenting their 2021 Ford Bronco 4-door and 1961 Corvair Lakewood.  The JConcepts team started in 2020 with Ford licensing to build and model an official RC version which would certainly be a highly sought-after vehicle in the market.  In the case of the Ford Bronco by JConcepts, the hands of time moved very slowly to form a product worthy of such a nameplate.  The multi-piece mold delivers increased detail to the front and rear-end of the Bronco to give increased street and off-road appeal.  The chiseled look of the body style in the 4 door variant sizes up well to the popular 12.3” wheelbase vehicles on the market.  For the 1961 Corvair Lakewood, the crew from the JConcepts Speed and Adventure Shop worked to finely detail the window treatments, hard top look, and hardened structure of the Bronco.  The unique figure of the base structure is kindly shaped front to rear, the upper and lower sections tuck in slightly and with included body lines for doors and recessed windows has the item looking on-point.  The rear “hatch” door is detailed with body lines, high visibility rear window and the taillights protrude to give additional definition. Both bodies fit Traxxas TRX-4 Sport, Enduro, Axial, Vanquish 12.3″ wheelbase.

Awesomatix A800R New Parts

Awesomatix has released a number of new parts for their A800R 1:10 Electric Touring Car.   New ST05-R Damper Rods add “friction type” damping into the suspension operation.  ST05-R slides along ST102 with noticeable friction at suspension travel. Friction damping feature more compression of suspension = more damping, even at low speed of suspension.  Oil damping feature more speed of suspension travel = more damping. Small damping at low speed of suspension.  With ST05-R the car rolls and dives slower and responds to the steering input faster.  A800R damper settings which were good with ST205 rods, should be 10…25% softer when using ST05-R.  Also new are the AT143 ARB Stiffeners which increases stiffness of the anti-roll bar up to one step. +1 step stiffness increasing means that 1.0 mm bar acts like 1.1 mm bar, 1.1 mm bar acts like 1.2 mm bar,  1.2 mm bar acts like 1.3 mm bar and 1.3 mm bar acts like 1.4 mm bar.  1/2  and 1/4 steps of increasing are possible to set.

OfficinaRC introduce Aero-B aero bumpers

Best known for their high precision screws, OfficinaRC has introduced the Aero-B range of aero bumpers for electric touring car.  The Aero-Bumper project was born with the idea of not leaving unexplored the solution of using airflow to increase performance on scale models. It is no secret that in recent years aerodynamics has perhaps been the aspect that has most influenced motorsport in general.  From this consideration, Aero-B was born – Bumpers designed to channel air onto the front end and increase steering control at medium and high speeds.  In addition to the aerodynamic aspect, a lot of work has been done in the choice of materials to create it.  In fact, Aero-B is created using 3D printing with MSLA resin printing technology using a combination of ABS+TPU techno-polymers that give it good resilience with a lightweight. As always for OfficinaRC products, the design of these products makes the model’s look even more appealing.  The Aero-B bumpers are available for Awesomatix’ A800R (7.3g), A800MMX (6.7g) and A800FX (6.7g) and the Xray X4 and X4F (6.2g).  This product is aimed at those who are looking for performance in detail, not just pure resistance.
