Wood wins British 1:8 Onroad Nationals opener

Tim Wood has won the opening round of the 2023 BRCA British 1:8 Onroad National Championships.  Hosted by the Cotswold Model Car Club over the weekend, the first encounter of the 6 round championship would see the Team Shepherd driver top all four rounds of qualifying but it was his run in Q3 that secured him the TQ honours.  Behind, Andrew Hastings would line-up second with his Capricorn after he posted his fastest time in Q2.  John Carr completed the Top 3 posting his quickest run in the penultimate qualifier.  In the 30-minute final it would be a repeat of last year’s penultimate round visit to the Cotswolds track, as Wood secured a comfortable win with his Hasi Tuned powered Velox V8.2s.  Hastings would finish second while the Serpent of Matthieu Dambrine, fifth fastest in qualifying, completed the podium as Carr retired after 8-minutes.

JConcepts long snout 17mm wrench

JConcepts has released this 17mm long snout wheel wrench for use on all 17mm wheel nut applications.  The uniqueness of this long snout allows the reach to those deep offset wheels such as JConcepts’ Aggressor wheels.  The injection molded wrench is durable to a light-handed touch and can be used for many vehicles in the RC bash and performance world.  The large handle with built-in textured ends, provides a comfortable grip for adding and removing wheel nuts.

MIBO Duo Racing Charger

Continuing the roll out of its new range of racing accessories, MIBO has released this small dual-channel Duo Racing AC/DC 200W Charger/Discharger.  It is an intelligent charger with mains and car battery power supply and very simple and straightforward operation. The MIBO Duo Racing AC/DC 200W Charger/Discharger allows you to charge common battery types, plus it is equipped with built-in six-channel balancers to ensure safe charging of lithium batteries.  The charger is equipped with a colour LCD display and a programming wheel and button, which provide you with the possibility of comfortable and fast parameter setting, control and monitoring of the charging process. In addition to the compact “palm-sized” design and intuitive operation, it is worth a special mention that it has a program for new types of high-voltage LiHV batteries with a terminal voltage for charging up to 4.35 V. Phend & Fuller double at 2023 Psycho Nitro Blast

Dakotah Phend was the big winner of the Psycho Nitro Blast over the weekend, the TLR driver taking the top prize in both Nitro and Electric Buggy.  The 16th running of PNB, the Tennessee indoor event attracted 767 entries meaning just two rounds of qualifying with Phend topping both Nitro rounds from Spencer Rivkin to secure the overall TQ.  Third in both qualifiers Brandon Rose secured 3rd ahead of Ryan Maifield and Jared Tebo.  In eBuggy, Rivkin and Phend took one round each but on tie break it was the Team Associated driver who was the Top Qualifier with defending champion Mason Fuller 3rd from Ryan Lutz.  In the single 10-minute eBuggy final, Phend found his way to the front after four laps after both he and Rivkin lost position early on.  In the end Phend would finish 2.8-seconds clear of Rivkin with the Tekno of 10th place qualifier Seth VanDalen coming through for third.  Concluding the 2023 Psycho Nitro Blast, the 45-minute Nitro Final saw Phend capitalise on his TQ to take the win by 10-seconds from Fuller and Rose with Maifield 4th.   Fuller would do the double in Truggy, the HB Racing driver taking the Nitro win from the TQ ahead of Phend and in eTruggy he lead a Fuller 1-2 from Kaden who had taken the overall TQ.

VP-Pro 1:10 Nylon wing

VP-Pro has added this new nylon WN-011 wing intended for 1:10 offroad use to its range.  Made from durable nylon and available in black, white and yellow, it is made to last being a much more resist to impacts when compared to lexan wings.  The wing comes pre-cut and provides improved rear traction and added overall stability and will be available from late April.

Xpress signs top Japanese Touring Car ace Nagashima

A big announcement from Xpress is that they have acquired the services of top international Japanese Touring Car driver Yugo Nagashima.  The 27-year old brings a wealth of race experience and knowledge to the Hong Kong manufacturer and kicked off his deal with his new sponsor with victory for their XQ10R 1:10 Touring Car at the opening round of the popular Speed King Tour at Super Rajikon Osaka Store over the weekend.  Nagashima’s CV includes victories at the Japanese, Canadian & Australian Nationals, the Snowbirds, the U.S. Indoor Champs and the Asian Onroad Championships.  Having previous raced for Serpent, he is set for an international race programme with Xpress.

Hebert dominates at ’23 Canadian Onroad Nationals

Keven Hebert completed another double at the Canadian Onroad Nationals, the Xray driver securing both the Touring Car and 1:12 wins at the Seaway Mall in Welland, Ontario. Attracting just shy of 350 entries, Canadian’s best known onroad racer would secure the overall TQ in both classes, setting the fastest time from Leonard Schinzano in 1:12 and Douglas Shewfelt in Mod Touring Car. In the single legs Mains, Hebert would dominate from the front winning 1:12 by a full lap after the 8-minutes from Schinzano with fourth place qualifier JB Catricala completing the podium. In Touring Car, Hebert pulled clear to win from Shewfelt’s Awesomatix with third place qualifier Barrett Morrow also holding station to complete the Top 3.

Horne does double at Pro-line April Fools Classic

The 34th Annual Pro-line April Fools Classic took place over the weekend with Aydin Horne the big winner in Utah.  In 2WD Buggy, the Team Associated driver secured TQ honours after topping the final 2 of the four qualifiers, his Q4 pace giving him the tie breaker over Schumacher’s Broc Champlin.  Domnic Paccione secured P3 with the second fastest time for both Q3 & 4. In 4WD Buggy it would be Champlin who secured pole for the triple finals after he also set the pace in the third & fourth rounds.  Horne opened quali with a TQ run while team-mate Dustin Evans topped Q2 but had to settle for 4th on the grid behind Kevin Gillespie.  In the 4WD finals, second place starter Horne would get the better of Champlin to take A1 and repeating that again in A2 wrapped up an earlier overall win. Following Champlin home in A3 for a P2 finish, Evans would complete the podium line-up ahead of Xray’s Ty Tessmann.  In the 2WD finals, Horne won A1 while Champlin retired and Evans came through from P5 for second.  Taking A2 ahead of Horne, Champlin forced play to the last final of the event however Horne duly took A3 to complete the April Fools Classic double.
