2014 ROAR Region 4 Championships – Report

2014 ROAR Region 4 Championships – Report

Region 4 racers converged at Space Coast R/C Raceway in Cocoa, FL, for a weekend-long event to determine the coveted ROAR regional title. Racers came in from all points of Florida to compete and also gain access to a facility that is also going to host the ROAR 1/10th Off-Road Electric Nationals later in the year. A very warm Florida weekend made things rather stuffy inside and out, but as always the track is full of traction which racers seem to love time and time again. A bumpy surface combined with the high-traction had racers on-edge all weekend trying to find that ultimate combination of fast and stable.

On the Grapevine – Austria

Grapevine Austria

Over the last month my work commute became a bit regular, well regular in terms of the destination country as I made three consecutive trips to Austria. The first of these was for the season finale of the Euro Offroad Series which thanks to a change to the weekend schedule would turn out to be the first time in the championships’ 11 races that on a Sunday evening as I did my final wrap up that I made the comment ‘I enjoyed that’. From there it was ETS action that brought me back to Austria, this time to a small town called Mattsee. In my time as Events Editor of Red RC I have got to meet many great people around the world but on that weekend I would get to meet someone who a few years ago as a huge motoring fan I would never have expected to meet let alone be invited to have dinner with. While appreciative of its picturesque countryside and enjoying every second of driving on its twisty mountain roads my Austrian ‘tour’ would unfortunately end on a very damp note as the rain did everything in its power to try and prevent the running of the second round of the new Euro Nitro Series.

RSD TC6.2 RSD7 carbon fibre chassis

RSD TC6.2 RSD7 carbon fibre chassis

Available now from Reflex Racing is the RSD7 carbon fibre chassis for the Team Associated TC6.2 touring car. The shape of the chassis has been engineered so that the car can roll and pitch more naturally, increasing the traction and the steering of the TC6.2, which translates into more corner speed and stability. This is further assisted by the reduced width of only 85mm that has been chosen to promote more roll in the corners as well as allow to run a lower ride height when necessary. On top of that the battery position is pushed further back to increase corner entry steering. Other features include mounting holes for an optional and soon available motor mount and drilled holes underneath the front bellcranks allow easy access to the inverted bellcrank screws. Optional keyed-in carbon fibre battery holders are available separately.

Exotek SRX2 direct spur mount

Exotek Racing introduce this direct spur mount for Serpent’s SRX2 series of buggies. Designed for the use in stock motor classes and oval racing, the spur mount eliminates the slipper assembly in order to make for a lighter drivetrain which improves acceleration and lowers the running temperatures of the motor. The hub assembly weights in at only 5.8g, which is almost the half of the stock slipper assembly and the design allows for easy switching between the gear hub an the stock slipper assembly when conditions call for it.

Hagberg & Luhur win at Singapore Open

Hagberg & Luhur win at Singapore Open

The 2014 Singapore Open was held at the beautiful and newly resurfaced East Coast PA track in Singapore. Some 60 entries in three different classes battled for the wins. In 1/10th 200mm it was Singapore’s Nicholas Lee who managed to take the TQ, just in front of Alexander Hagberg in 2nd place. Both driver were a lot faster than the competition and it looked like the two would battle it out for the win on Sunday. Unfortunately, Nicholas hit mechanical problems in his semifinal and did not proceed to the final. Alexander had better luck and managed to win the semi B to take the pole position for the main final.
