Matsukura takes first 4WD qualifier at EOS

Newly crowned 2WD Champion Naoto Matsukura got his quest for a first 4WD race win off to a good start this morning at the Euro Offroad Series when he TQ’d the opening round of qualifying.  The Yokomo ace topped the round by a considerable margin over title contender Martin Bayer.  For defending champion Joern Neumann it was a contrasting start to the day as he lasted just a single lap in Q1 after breaking a front arm off his Durango following contact with the track outside barrier on the main straight.   A strong run by Neumann’s young team-mate Michal Orlowski saw him complete the Top 3.

Neumann relinquishes title but gets first win in Austria

Having relinquished his Euro Offroad Series 2WD Buggy title to Naoto Matsukura in the second A-Main, Joern Neumann took some satisfaction in winning A3 to claim the overall win for the fourth & final round of the championship in Austria this evening.  The only driver to have held an EOS buggy title prior to today, the Team Durango driver’s win makes him the fourth winner of the season in the ever increasingly competitive championship.  Today’s win also helped Neumann to snatch the runner-up spot in the championship from former team Hupo Honigl who ends up third.   The season’s other race winner Xray’s Martin Bayer ends up fourth followed by the Schumacher of Tom Cockerill, who TQ’d the season opener, making if five different manufacturers at the top of the overall 2013/14 points standings.

Matsukura is EOS Champion, Neumann wins A2

sat_naotochamp

Naoto Matsukura is the new 2013/14 Euro Offroad Series Champion despite the overall winner of the season finale having yet being decided.  Winner of A1 in Wels, Austria, the Team Yokomo driver finished second in A2 behind Joern Neumann meaning he will finish the fourth & final round of the championship no lower than second.   So irrespective of the outcome of A3,  with three from four rounds to count, this means he becomes only the second ever driver to be crowned a champion of the EOS ending Neumann dominant reign since the series was created three years ago.

Matsukura takes first A-main in Austria

naotoa1win

Despite a roll that cost him over two & a half seconds, Naoto Matsukura triumphed in the opening A-Main of 2WD at the Euro Offroad Series finale in Austria.  Starting from the TQ position the Yokomo driver looked to have proceedings under control until a mistake just before the loop moved title rival Hupo Honigl to the front.  While the Team C driver would lead for 5-laps after failing on his first attempted pass on the second attempt Matsukura would force his way back to the front where he would stay till the end.  Having been somewhat off the pace in qualifying, making use of the 1-hour free practice session before the start of the finals, Lee Martin got his Yokomo working piling on the pressure on Honigl in the closing laps the former European Champions separated by just 0.068 at the line.

Matsukura takes Q3 at EOS

sat_naoto

After setting the fastest laps of the opening two qualifiers of 2WD Buggy at the Euro Offroad Series in Wels, Austria, Naoto Matsukura finally managed to pull off a TQ run in the penultimate round.   Laying down another new outright fastest lap, the Yokomo driver took Q3 from early pace setter Joern Neumann in a new fastest time, something that could prove crutial should qualifying go to a tie break with Q1 & 2 pace setter Hupo Honigl.  While Martin Bayer had a good round to complete the Top 3, after a perfect morning at the Modelbau Wels Hobby Show, mistakes in the third qualifier meant Honigl would post only the fourth fastest time.
