Team Orion have released their new Vortex VST SC 550 Pro motors. Using the same technology as in their 1/10 VST sensor motors, this 550 version has been optimised for Short Course Truck applications. A rebuildable 2 piece motor can design it has optimised sensor, rotor & stator positioning for improved efficiency and lower heat build-up. Available in 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 versions.

This past weekend SDRC Raceway in sunny San Diego played host to the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. Good weather in San Diego and a great day for a benefit race to help fund breast cancer research. In the midst of the 124 entries and perfect indoor track conditions, Tekno RC driver Thomas Jones TQ’d all 3 rounds of qualifying in 1/8th eBuggy. He went on to win the A main and bring home the victory. Thomas was using a Tekno RC V4 equipped HB D8 along with all of the other Tekno RC upgrades for the D8.

Young Danish driver Oliver Fischer has signed with Horizon Hobby UK for the 2012 season. Oliver will run the TLR 8ight buggy & truggy as well as the TLR 22 1:10th buggy. Oliver had this to say about the deal:

A combination of years of development with JConcepts drivers, the Hybrids are all the rage and the combination of the most popular JConcepts tires available. Extensive testing showed a smaller pin height advantageous in many conditions and particularly when sharp angles and edges arise in the track surface. At the base of the design, the new mid-height lugs present the compound to the racing surface while the center lug DNA picks up the heavy lifting for forward-bite. Last weekend the final round of the Norwegian Cup Series was held at Radøy RC’s track, about an hour away from the coastal city of Bergen. It was a bumpy astro track with high grip, and although this place is far away from most drivers and often has bad weather, participation was surprisingly high. In 2wd Martin Sørlie running his Team Orion Powered TLR 22 was nearly guaranteed the win in the Norwegian cup with the most points, and with a TQ & 2nd place finish he did so with a 75 point lead ahead of Frode Pedersen and Niklas Bjørkå Roos, both running 22’s as well. In 4wd it was a lot more competition, as there were five drivers theoretically in contention of the cup win. The points from four out of five races count, and having run and won only two races, Martin would need to win this last race with his Team Orion Powered Yokomo Bmax to be able to win the cup. Qualifying second on the grid and winning two of the mains, meant he did his job. 2nd and 3rd place went to Niklas Bjørkå Roos (Schumacher) and Arne-Peder Flesvik (Yokomo).

JConcepts and Steve “Hillbilly” Hale have teamed up to bring a special event to Real R/C Raceway in Blue Springs, Missouri on November 19-20, 2011. Properly named the JConcepts Winter Indoor Shootout and Hillbilly Invitational takes place directly in the Heartland of America. The famous track owner and “Hillbilly,” known for running some of the best events in the United States has created a special event at his home track where several of the Midwest’s finest racers do battle on a weekly basis. Simply put, this is music to the racers ears.
With the 2011 Arena Offroad Meeting just around the corner (13-16 October), the organisers have announced that former European Champion and newly crowned French National Champion Yannick Aigoin will be back to defend his titles that he won in both buggy and truggy in 2009, the last time the event was held. The Losi/Nvision ace will join a whole host of top European and Italian drivers at this exciting and unique indoor race, more of whom will be announced in the coming days. Organisers have today also published the final schedule for the event on their site, which sees 4 classes run, 1/8th brushless, truggy, buggy F1 and buggy F2 as well as the famous Race of Champions race on Saturday night. Red RC will be in attendance from the beginning of qualifying and you can follow all the coverage throughout the weekend on our Event site.
