Toy Fair 2011 – Kyosho

Kyosho Vone R4 chassis

Kyosho once again have a large booth showing their diverse range of products to the assembled masses. On the stand was the follow up to their multiple World Championship winning V-One platform, the R4. This all new 200mm chassis has been designed from the bottom up with help from team drivers Adrian Bertin and Takaaki Shimo. Featuring really small diameter differentials gives the car a lighter drivetrain and this also helps obtain the car’s super low centre of gravity. Sporting aluminium lower suspension brackets, there is the two piece rear block configuration as seen on its competitors, an adjustable servo saver position and an all new 2-speed gearbox. We are told that the only parts carried across from the old car were the shock absorbers.

Toy Fair 2011 – Team Orion

Orion Carbon Pro 90C

Team Orion have a huge selection of new products on their stand with the standout product being the new line of 90C LiPo batteries. The Carbon Pro series comes in all the usual formats, 1S, Saddle, Stick, 1/8th version, and is able to achieve this new C rating through the use of a new separator in the cell that allows higher current. While they admit that the wires cant handle the full output of the battery, it does give a lot more torque to your motor.

Toy Fair 2011 – Xray

Xray RX8 1/8th scale

Xray have a larger booth this year to accommodate their growing range of products the featured one being their all new 1/8th scale on road chassis. As told in their previous column and as you saw in the previous story to this one, the RX8 is a pretty standard affair for a car in this class with its only stand out feature being the legendary Xray quality. Using Hudy spring steel for the drive train and front oneway it also carries over some parts from its World Champion brother, the NT1, with the shock absorbers and receiver box the same. Its a very nice looking car too, in all black, and from all accounts it goes really well on the track too.

Toy Fair 2011 – Serpent

Serpent Cobra Truggy

Serpent are displaying their new Cobra Truggy on their stand and as you would expect the car is very much like the S811 buggy but larger. The most stand out feature of this car is the cab forward body shell which is very aggressive and low in the centre around the engine. A small update to the drivetrain, using 3 bearings to support the rear diff coupler has also been carried across to the buggy, its only update.

Toy Fair 2011 – Mugen

Mugen MTX5 CAD images

Once again Mugen only have CAD images of their all new car, this time the MTX-5 1/10th scale 200mm chassis. Taking design cues and ideas from its bigger brother the MRX-5, the new car which is set for a summer release is the second car from the brain of European Champion Robert Pietsch. A lot of striking features, the rear brake disk taken directly from the 1/8th scale is mounted directly to the rear axle using a spline and hex system while up front the new fuel tank is suspended above the front steering servo to allow it to be positioned more centrally.
