Darren Bloomfield wins EMMA Indoor

The 1st annual CML sponsored EMMA indoor meeting was held last weekend at the Newark Showground, where the organising club had built a challenging and exciting track that ensured a lot of action and close racing. The qualifying sessions saw some incredibly close times and some awesome driving by some of the best drivers in Europe and it was Associated driver Lee Martin that took the TQ, being the only driver to secure his place in the A-main. Following the semi finals, the 45 minute race got underway with Lee taking the lead followed by Losi man Darren Bloomfield and another Associated racer Neil Cragg in 3rd. After 10 minutes, Darren took over at the front and steadily pulled away, eventually taking the win by over a lap from Lee in 2nd, with a clean drive from Craig Drescher giving the RC8 driver the final step on the podium.

BMT 081 Rally Game chassis

Long standing Italian manufacturer BMT are close to releasing their latest Rally game chassis, the 081. This new chassis has completely revised geometry, better weight distribution and a lower centre of gravity compared its predecessor. The car, in the hands of super quick Italian racer, Francesco Tironi, was used to win the RG class at last weekends Kyosho/ Sirio Cup in Greece. Due to the country’s rules, Tironi had fitted a 2 speed gearbox to his car, something that is normally not allowed in the rules, and despite breaking a 1st gear in the race was able to stay out in front and take home the win.

Swauger takes Sao Paulo Champs Rd6

We received a brief report from the 6th round of the Sao Paulo Championships that took place at the Carrefour Track in Sao Paulo, Brazil, last weekend. Mugen factory driver Mike Swauger made his way to Brazil from the US for this race and proceeded to take the top qualifying spot. This series sees everyone run a semi final and Mike was easily able to place 1st, which would give him the pole position for the main final, however prior to this it started to rain and so the race was stopped and the results taking from the final starting order. This gave the win to Swauger, ahead of his team mate Henrique Winik in 2nd, with Serpent racer Flavio Elias in 3rd.

Thanks to Davi Antunes for the report.

Kyosho Inferno GT2 McLaren F1 GTR

Just 28 of the 107 McLaren F1 supercars produced in the 90’s were allocated for the “GTR” racing program, which included the F1 GTR of Kokusai Kaihatsu Racing. In 1995 during its first year racing the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the F1 GTR dominated the entire field including the prototypes, which are usually the overwhelming favorites to win. The Kaihatsu Racing entry won the overall championship and the F1 GTR took four of the top five overall finishing positions. Recognizing the importance of the victory and its historical significance, McLaren took the car back to their facility and it was never raced again. The newest version of the Inferno GT2 features a faithful reproduction of this legendary McLaren F1 GTR. The body is factory licensed by McLaren to ensure the quality and appearance meets the demanding McLaren standards.
