Proline Indoor Challenge – Qualifying

Proline Indoor Challenge - Qualifying

Qualifying is over for this years Proline Indoor Challenge, held at the Harper Adams agricultural college in the UK. The Team Associated RC8 which proved very competitive following timed practice yesterday has gone on to take the overall TQ at the event, in the hand of top US off roader Ryan Maifield. Equal in score with Mugen racer Scott Hughes, Ryan took the TQ thanks to an extra dropped 2nd place to break the difference of 2 wins and a second each. That leaves Hughes in 2nd position with another RC8 of current World 2wd Champion Neil Cragg in 3rd just in front of yet another RC8, this time belonging to US racer Richard Saxton.

In the truggy class it is Mugen racer Scott Hughes that takes the top spot for tomorrow with young German racer Joern Neumann, also driving Mugen in the truggy class, in 2nd spot with HoBao racer Graham Alsop taking the 3rd qualifying spot in front of Linus Thern driving a Kyosho.

Darren Johnson wins Spanish EFRA GP

Darren Johnson wins Spanish EFRA GP

Today saw the finals run at the Spanish EFRA GP in Madrid, where the weather was playing a factor all weekend, with cold temperatures and rain causing distruptions to all racers and todays weather was not much better, with rain dispersed by sunny spells. With so many drivers far down the order after qualifiying there was a lot of action in the lower finals with Carlos Peracho, Teemu Leino and Darren Johnson, some of the drivers making their way up into the A-final from lower qualifying spots. The 45 minute main final was disrupted once more by rain showers, which made tire choice vital, and the one who got it right was eventual winner Darren Johnson, racing a Team Magic G4S, who won ahead of 2nd placed Xray driver Teemu Leino of Finland by 5 laps with 2nd placed qualifier Rafael Ortiz eventually claiming the final podium spot in 3rd, one lap down on Leino.

More pictures to follow.

Markus Maier wins Rd1 Dutch Truggy.nl Cup

Markus Maier wins Rd1 Dutch Truggy.nl Cup

The first race of the 2007 truggy.nl cup was held on the beach at the Hoek van Holland this weekend on a very sandy and technical circuit at the beachclub Jan Patat. The event attrated 28 drivers and the sunny weather made this race a perfect day at the beach, but the sand also took it’s toll making its way into every moving object on the car and of course doing what only sand can do best, damage. In the a main final it was German Robitronic Mantis driver Markus Maier that took an early lead and managed to extend his lead to two laps before his truggy ran into some problems and had to make a visit to the pits. After a quick repair he came back on track and in the 12th minute of the 24-minute he restored his lead and took the win ahead of Frans van der Kniff who finished 2nd with Emile Grim in 3rd.

Spanish EFRA GP – Rain interrupts play

Spanish EFRA GP

This weekends EFRA Spanish GP, being held at the ARCA track in Madrid, has been heavily disrupted by rain and low temperatures. The event, which was being treated as a warm up race for this summers European 1/10th 200mm Championships, is being attended by most of the top teams in Europe with some very serious competition entered. Despite the wet weather and 8 degree temperatures today, qualifying was run and it was topped by local driver Victor Pelaez driving a Team Magic G4S, 2nd position going to Serpent racer Rafael Ortiz with Swedish NT1 racer Niklas Hakansson in 3rd, reigning Spanish 1/8th scale champion and Serpent SDD driver Oscar Cabezas ended the day 4th. With weather not expected to be much better tomorrow, and a lot of quick drivers at the bottom of the field, it will be a lottery as to who will make into the main final tomorrow afternoon.
