Atomic RC Alu heat sink for Mini-Z AWD

Atomic RC Alu heat sink for Mini-Z AWD

Atomic RC have shown CAD images of their soon to be released blue anodised, and sweetly machined, aluminium cooling heat sink for the Mini-Z AWD. Mounted to the car the scoop sticks out the side of the chassis and channels air to the motor and electronics, keeping it all nice and cool, and because the whole thing is aluminium the heat will be easily dissipated too.

Jake Zarb wins New Zealand On Road EP Nationals

New Zealand On Road EP Nationals

Xray are reporting on their site that Jake Zarb, racing an Xray, has won the New Zealand On Road EP Nationals that were run recently on the Manawatu track. The race was run on foam tires, with no additives allowed, and there was a 12 turn limit on the motors and finally brushless systems weren’t allowed, which all made for close competitive racing. Jake Zarb dominated the event from qualifying, where he easily TQ’d, to the finals which he was able to win comfortably to take the overall title followed home by Ivan Ho and Pearce Stephens in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

HPI Baja buggy goes 120 miles through the Desert

HPI Baja buggy

Big scale isnt really our thing at Red RC, but what HPI Racing has done with their big scale Baja 5B, thoroughly deserves a mention. They drove the buggy continuously, apart from 6 fuel stops, 120 miles through desert roads while the driver who was controlling the Baja followed closely in a specially prepared off road vehicle, that itself was driven by a professional desert racer.

With only six stops to fuel the Baja, the car and its team made the historic journey in less than 6 hours of running time! This meant an average of nearly 22 mph for the Baja! Not fast enough to beat the best Barstow-to-Vegas race time, but certainly fast enough to make it the roughest, toughest off-road RC car in the world!

Solaroli Tuning Picco Evo2 .21 and .12

Solaroli Tuning Picco Evo2

Solaroli Tuning, if you haven’t heard of them, is a company run by top Italian racer Stefano Solaroli who, amongst other things, tunes motors like only Italians know how. While he tunes all different makes of motor, his current pair of offerings are from Picco and are based on the new Evo2 .21 and .12 engines which in turn is similar to the current range of Mega ZX engines. Stefano has done all the usual work like porting the liner and working, optimising and polishing the crankshaft to get the absolute most from the engine. Expect them to be fast but suprisingly they arent too expensive despite all the hand work done to them.

In the race Gene Hickerson managed to get the holeshot and pulled ahead, only to run into mechanical problems at the halfway point, leaving Travis and Leon to take over at the top. Dupree then himself ran into difficulties which dropped him back and allowed Leon to take the lead and go on to take the win ahead of Kyosho racer Robin Nelson in 2nd and Xray racer Chris Crews in 3rd.

Soeren Boy Holst wins Rd4 Pilegaards-Cup

Rd4 Pilegaards-Cup

Xray have a report on their site from Soeren Boy Holst who writes about the 4th round of the Pilegaards Cup in Denmark. Soeren managed to claim the TQ spot in the modified class and then went on to win the race ahead of Michael Priest and Nikolaj Hviid who finished in 2nd and 3rd respectively

The first final was perfect. Michael was close in the beginning, but made some mistakes and so I made a gap. The car was still fine, but the tyres felt a little looser this time. Michael’s car broke down, and so did Nikolaj Hviid, so it was Kim Lindegaard who would take 2nd place with his T2’007, and his son Nicolai in third, also with a T2’007.
