XRS UK GP 2020 – Report

The 2020 Xray Racing Series UK GP was hosted by the Cotswold Model Car Club last weekend. Saturday was hampered by the wet weather and only a few dry runs in the afternoon were actually possible so everyone was looking forward to a much better race day. Unfortunately, the day started out damp with the first two rounds of qualification needing wet tyres. After the morning mist broke the sun finally made it onto the track and things quickly started to heat up, the track started drying and rounds 3 and 4 were dry and proved to be a super-fast track with Xray factory Modified racer Elliott Harper breaking the track record over five minutes and also the hot lap record. In the end and behind Elliott it was Olly Jefferies (Xray) with the runner-up position in the Touring Modified class from Chris Grainger (Awesomatix) in 3rd.

Yokomo BD10 short shock taper pistons

Coming from Yokomo and made for their BD10 touring car are new tapered 1.0mm 4-hole pistons. They feature a special, tapered design that provides different shock characteristics on compression and extension with the tapered shape resulting in quicker extension and increased “pack” upon compression. In addition the piston holes sit at an angle which means even when running softer oils the shocks offer a harder pack on quick inputs while absorbing micro vibrations and smaller road imperfections, keeping the wheels to the ground more effectively.

Sousa & Morrow double at Nitro Blast race

Otterville RC Raceway hosted the Nitro Blast race last weekend with over 170 entries making for busy days. Mark Sousa would be the top seed in in the Nitro Buggy class and he continued to stay on top throughout qualifying to take the overall TQ and pole position for the 45-minute A-main event. The main race on Sunday would be held in rainy conditions despite the track crew trying their best to get through the day’s programme as fast as possible in order to avoid the weather. The rain made the track super slick but Mark was able to conserve his qualifying performance as he took the win by quite some margin with Douglas Shewfelt and George Stilliadis coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Over in the 1/8th E-Buggy class it was Barrett Morrow with the win from Andrew Bucar in 2nd and David Reime in 3rd.

RC Maker BD10 Slimflex chassis & weight options

RC Maker have introduced their new Slimflex carbon fibre chassis and floating electronics plate for the Yokomo BD10 touring car. Tested and developed for months the chassis will improve on the original chassis, especially in low-med traction conditions. The chassis is narrowed all round to provide less scrubbing in corners, leading to increased corner speed. This increases flex, so to counteract this, the designers have recessed the diff and spool cutouts instead of cutting them all the way through. Not only does this bring the chassis back up to the desired amount of flex, it also improves aerodynamic performance by not preventing air from under the chassis being forced up into the car, detrimental to downforce. Overall, the chassis is slightly stiffer than the kit chassis, and provides improved response.
