Davide Ongaro has won the opening A-Main at the 4WD Offroad World Championship seeing off a number of challenges from Michal Orlowski. The Top Qualifier in Arizona, the Team Associated driver would eventually win by 1.4 seconds after Orlowski final challenge for the lead ended when he got his Schumacher up on two wheels. While the two Europeans pulling clear of the field, Spencer Rivkin would get close to Orlowski after each of his bobbles but the Polish driver pulled away again leaving Rivkin to finish a distance third. The inaugural eSIC (Electric Singapore International Challenge) race took place over the weekend in Singapore at the RCMC race track. Attracting a number of high profile professional racers around the globe, the race was made more special with Scotty Ernest on the mic. The sold out event was challenged by poor weather forecast. The organieers adjusted the rain disrupted schedule on Saturday, and cut qualifying short to 4 minutes for modified and 13.5t Open brushless touring cars, FWD class and 6 minutes for the 5th scale Superbike to keep as many qualifyings as possible without needing to remove qualifyings. It sparked lots of interest when it was initially revealed as part of the new start-ups announcement of former 1:10 European Offroad Champion Martin Bayer joining its team, and today Czech company Elceram has announced that their Nitride 1:10 ESC is due for October release. The Nitride is a new generation electronic speed controller for BLDC motors. Schumacher’s Daniel Kobbevik claimed a double win at the fourth round of the Norwegian 1:10 Offroad Nationals which took place in Bergen last weekend. Moved to the West Coast venue after issues with originally scheduled venue, Saturday’s 2WD action presented driver with weather from all four seasons. Despite the challenges, Kobbevik would take the TQ ahead of fellow Schumacher driver Halvor Gran and the Team Associated of Adrian Sognestad. …the first two rounds to lock in the overall TQ while the Mugen of Chu Williams would take the Super Pole shoot out to secure P2 on the grid. With the race attracting an entry from none other than legendary race announcer & recent 1:8 Onroad racing convert Scotty Ernst, in the 1-hour Main final Losam would have some issues at the start leaving him in P7. Hosted at the track of MSC Kichlain in the centre of the country and with more than 50 drivers in attendance, it would be the Shepherd of Hoppe who would take the overall TQ from Greiner and the Capricorn of recent European Championship Top Qualifier Toni Gruber. …Behind Malaysian driver’s Shukri would secure P2 with Esmail Apandi from Singapore third. In the double leg A-Main, Quek would lead from start to finish from the 3 Racing of Shukri with Shaikh Mohd Shahrin coming through from 7th on the grid to complete the podium on a tie-breaker with Apandi. In Pro Stock, the biggest class of the event with 38 entries, Adik Haikal took the win for 3 Racing. 13.5 Stock was won by the Yokomo of Top Qualifier Azhari Azhar while the 17.5 GT victory also went to the Top Qualifier Hafiz Shahrin. Team Losi Racing’s Dakotah Phend and Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin have successfully defended their ROAR 1:10 Buggy National titles. The 2023 championships took place at HobbyTown Columbus in Georgia where 2WD Champion Phend would line up second on the grid behind Top Qualifier Broc Champlin as he attempted to keep his run of title going. A P9 in A1 after contact with Rivkin put Phend on the back foot as the World Champion took the win ahead of Ryan Cavalieri.
