Thurston makes it 4 out of 4 at British Nationals

Alex Thurston’s impressive 2024 BRCA 1:8 Onroad British National Championship season continued as he made it four from four at the Halifax track over the weekend.  In qualifying it was the Shepherd of reigning Champion Tim Wood who secured the TQ with the fastest time from the four rounds of qualifying.  1.2-seconds off the new nitro track record set by Wood, Thurston would line up P2 for the half hour final with his YMC Racing Mugen Seiki with Karl Dransfield’s Shepherd completing the Top 3.  A great battle between Wood & Thurston would see the championship leader eventually coming out on top with Wood just holding off team-mate Dransfield.  The win puts Thurston on 402 points out of a potential maximum of 404.  With three rounds still remaining, and 5 to count, Thurston will be aiming to get the title wrapped up at the fifth round at Wombwell on August 3/4th.  Wood won in Wombley last year en route to the title but a year early it was Thurston who took the win at South Yorkshire track.

JConcepts Falcon and Dirt Bite 1:8 Truck tyres

Having introduced the new Falcon and Dirt Bite tyre patterns to its range of 1:8 Buggy tyres at the start of this year, JConcepts is now offering the tyres for Truggy.  After successful tyre designs such as the Reflex, Detox, and Kosmos, the JConcepts team went back to work developing a fresh design, the result being the Falcon.  A triple row, double spaced concept is unique, and incorporates a new tapered and square shaped pin.  The tight nest of pins works together forming a rubber surface patch that handles the harder surfaces and resists wear due to their proximity.  The Dirt Bite concept involves the pins of the tire being positioned in a radius giving new alignment to racing surfaces. No matter how you view the new tire, the arrangement flows at a curvature making the Dirt Bite unique to all other tires on the market.  The Square pin, with tapered sizing has a crisp feel, malleable to the racing terrain and contorts to meet the demands of surfaces ranging from wet and loamy, to blue and black groove conditions.

Laseris Setup Stations

Coming from US based Dork Missile Performance is the Laseris setup station which is available in both 1:10 and 1:8 options.  This tool measures both camber and toe at the same time in half degree increments using a class one laser to pin point the setting.  Camber can be measured from -1 degree to -3 degrees in 1/2 degree increments. While toe will measure either toe-in or toe-out from 1/2 to 4 degrees in 1/2 degree increments.  The laser is rechargeable via standard USB connector and last for 16 hours of use.  The target uses a reflective paint to produce a bright red reflection once the desired setting is reached making it undeniably clear when the setting is reached.  The laser is strong enough to be visible in sunlight. The uprights are tall enough to clear most wings without removal for 1:10 cars and they secured against the wheel hex to eliminate additional movement associated with other systems.  Higher traction clay, truff and carpet tracks will benefit from 1/2 degree increments of adjustment for gains in cornering speeds.  The Laseris kit is designed to work with 1:10th offroad and onroad cars while Laseris 8 is for 1:8 onroad and offroad.  Packaging was designed to minimise work space footprint and to avoid taking up too much space in the pit bag for travel to and from the track.  Laseris kits are sold through BeachRC.

Factory Serpent driver Andrea Catanzani took the win at the AMSCI Italian National Constructor Championship which took place in Gubbio over the weekend.  Racing at the always immaculately presented multiple World Championship host Club Automodellistico 5 Colli track, qualifying would see the Xray of Luca Romagnoli secure the TQ on tiebreak with Catanzani, both drivers posting two TQ runs each over the four rounds. Capricorn’s Mirko Salemi would complete the Top 3.  In the 45-minute final, the opening 10-minutes saw good battle as Romagnoli lead the way closely chased by Catanzani and Salemi.  Having got to the front unfortunately Salemi would eventually have to retire from the race leaving Catanzani who set the fastest lap of the race to take the win by 2/3rd of a lap over Romagnoli.  Having qualified P9, the Mugen Seiki of Massimo Aliprandi would come through to complete the podium ahead of the Serpent of Mattia Collavo.  In the Sport Category young Mugen Seiki talent Luca Betti took both the TQ and the win.
