This past weekend was the fourth round of the Worksop series, entries were reduced slightly for this round to help try and keep everyone distanced and safe. The race format was round by round qualifying, with the best 2 results from 4 rounds of qualifying counting towards the final position. …of qualifying with 3 scores to count, followed by a single leg final for all. Bittydesign Modified Touring class The super fast mod cars looked awesome stretching their legs on this huge track. Alex Thurston took 2 round wins to line up in pole in front of Ben Cosgrove and Zak Smith with Ben and Zak both taking a round win, Ben had the fastest round. ETS Rd4 took place at Chuck’s Raceway in Neumünster/GER last weekend. The ETS crew organised the event under strict Covid-19 rules, and everybody was vaccinated or recovered and an additional daily test was responsible for the maximum safety of all participants. The race saw 220 entries in six classes and the event started with a free practice day on Thursday, followed by 4 rounds of qualifying and triple finals for everybody. The second round of the Essex Winter Series took place this weekend with another packed out entry featuring all of the top on-road drivers in the UK across the four racing classes. The top-billed Scorpion Modified class saw Olly Jefferies repeat the pole position he had secured at opening event of the season in October, as the Xray driver topped three of the four qualifying rounds. Round 2 of EssexCarpetClash4 took place last weekend. A fun track greeted the drivers in the morning and with the ‘slippery section’ proving to be quite challenging. In 4wd, Stephen Brown dominated qualifying topping the sheets in all four qualifiers. John Painter took the two spot ready for the finals, with David Orbell behind. 2wd saw a tussle between Ellis Stafford and Kyle Moon in each heat, with Stafford just edging the runs. The car sports inboard shock absorbers, removing the need for shock towers, with the aim of lowering the car’s centre of gravity. They have been doing extensive testing with a lot of 3d printed parts and hope to move forward with the project following some addition testing around the UK and completing some final design tweaks. After an enforced year break due to COVID-19, the Essex Winter Series returned this weekend with the first event in its 10th Anniversary Season. Despite concerns as to the health of the industry, a fully booked meeting greeted all the racers, along with an expanded pitting area to allow for more space. It was also great to see many new faces joining the famous championship, as well as plenty of returning names.
