Hara’s World Championship winning buggy almost home!

All World Championship winning RC cars have history and a story to tell but Atsushi Hara’s 2008 title winning Hot Bodies D8 has gone the extra mile, literally, by adding an interesting twist to the tale 15-years after its big win in Charlotte, USA. At the beginning of September, the legend of the sport shared on social media a post that he found his ‘most memorial car’ for sale on eBay. Days later the ad was listed as ‘Ended’ dashing hopes Hara might be able to be reunited with the buggy. Soon however contact was made with the seller who agreed to sell the car to Hara which is where Australian racer Zac Ryan stepped in. Creating a Gofundme page, such is the level of respect & admiration for Hara’s driving skills and the influence he had on so many racers the money was raised to complete the purchase. Now the interesting part of getting the car back to Hara in Japan, which in Hara’s own words goes a little something like this – ‘My 2008 worlds winning D8 get back project is one step closer to completion. Mark Pavidis pick it up from Eric Anderson in the US, Andrew Gillott and Josh Pain received it from Mark, they took it to Australia and Ben Panic received it, and Ben will take it from Australia to Japan and back to me in early October!! I have to biggest thank to the many people who helped make this happen!!’. Well done to everyone involved in helping to get this well travelled piece of history back to Hara. Hopefully we might get to see it ourselves in person with Hara when Red RC are in Japan in October for our coverage of the 1:8 Onroad World Championships at Infinity International RC Speedway.

Element RC Knightwalker RTR Enduro Trail Truck

In its latest 1:10 Crawler release, Element RC has introduced the Knightwalker Red RTR to its line of Enduro Trail Trucks. The Enduro Trail Truck with Knightwalker body comes ready for adventure right out of the box, with performance-driven Reedy Power electronics. The ultra-smooth, and powerful 16-turn, 5-slot Reedy brushed crawler motor and Reedy Power metal-gear, water-resistant servo supply ample power to this tough rig. Controlling the truck on the trail is our Flysky 2-in-1 radio and ESC combination. At the heart of the Enduro range is the revolutionary Stealth X gearbox. Although the exterior appears to have a conventional 3-gear transmission look, the inside is far from conventional. The Stealth X features the ability to adjust the rear drive ratio independently of the front drive across three levels: stock overdrives the front end 5.7%, option 1 provides a one-to-one drive ratio front-to-rear, and option 2 overdrives the front end 11.83%.

Matrix Neutron 1:8 Offroad tyre

Having officially entered the 1:8 Offroad tyre market in February of this year, Italian manufacturer Matrix Tires has released the latest addition to their range, the Neutron. The new tyre, the fifth model in the line-up, was given its first public introduced over the weekend at the ONG Trophy held at the track of World Champion & Matrix team driver Davide Ongaro. While Matrix don’t go into the specifics of the new tyre, it is available in their 7 compound options and both with or without their insert.

Polito wins ONG Trophy 2023

Sworkz’ Mattia Polito took the win at the annual ONG Trophy at the Ongaroring in Sacile, Italy. Enjoying a strong first full season with the Sworkz team, the former European B Champion and runner-up to World Champion Davide Ongaro in this year’s Italian National Championship would TQ Nitro Buggy. A finalist at this year’s European Championship in Spain, in the half hour final he would take a convincing over the Team Associated buggy of Austrian Jürgen Trieb. Xray driver Riccardo Masaggia completed the podium. With the prospects of bad weather forcing some drivers to cancel their trip to the home track of Davide Ongaro, 96 drivers still competed with rain only causing a stoppage in the action on Saturday afternoon. Fresh from clinching the 1:10 4WD World Championship title in Arizona, Ongaro would race in the Brushless Buggy Class taking the win ahead of Marcel Trieb and Nicolò Grisenti.

Lot crowned French 1:8 Nitro Buggy Champion

Sworkz driver Jordan Lot was crowned the new French 1:8 Nitro Buggy Champion over the weekend after taking victory at the fourth & final round of the championship which was hosted by Mini Bolides Chanusiens 61. Having claimed the eBuggy title two weeks earlier, this would be Lot’s sixth win from the 8 National Championship races that made up both championships. Qualifying second behind Top Qualifier Matisse Peyre for the Nitro title decider, Lot would win his Semi final to start pole in the 45-minute final which he would control to win from the Kyosho of multiple former European & French Champion Reno Savoya with Peyre’s Xray completing the podium. Overall Savoya would finish runner-up in the championship.

’23 Offroad World C/ship Chassis Focus Index

With the dust now settled on what was a fantastic & exciting 1:10 Offroad World Championships at Hobby Action RC Raceway, we have put together a full index of all the buggies we were able to photograph for our ‘Chassis Focus’ during our time in Arizona. While we request chassis focus with all the manufacturers, some are forced to decline to protect prototype parts or developments they were trying at the Worlds. We are always happy to respect this as in this modern era it has become easy for parts to reverse engineered from online images and made available before the chassis manufacturer, who has invested the time & funding into the buggy, has fully tested and signed off the final design of parts. Sworkz was one manufacturer who was unable to provide their buggies because of a new suspension parts they had for the event.

Reds Racing 721 Euros Edition

New from Italian engine builders Reds Racing is this new limited edition 721 Superveloce off-road engine to celebrate the company’s success at the 2023 Euros in Redovan, Spain last month. The new ‘Euros Edition’ 1:8 Offroad engine is a limited edition of only 300 pcs built to the same setup as used by Top Qualifier and Champion Juan Carlos Canas and Elliott Boots who took 2nd place at the 2023 European Championship. The engine comes with their revolutionary RTX Rotating Backplate that aims to increase engine power and improve stability at idle speed thanks to a drastic reduction in friction between the connecting rod and backplate. This time Reds Racing engineers have invented something unique in RC model market, destined to be considered one of the most innovative solutions of the last 30 years. Contrary to what happens for traditional RC engines, where the connecting rod slides on the backplate producing sliding friction, in the RTX Backplate the connecting rod is in contact with a special steel plate that can rotate together with the conrod thanks to the fact that it is mounted on two special high speeds ball bearings.
