Southern Summer Payout Series Rd4 – Report

The fourth and final round of the Southern Summer Payout Series was held at Thornhill Racing Circuit. The series travelled across the three states of Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. With Thornhill having a new turf track, after weather destroyed the previous covered clay track, the challenge would be how to handle the extreme rise in grip from the previous events. To this added an extremely high temperature, making the day a challenge for man and machine. The podium in the 2WD Stock class went to Austin Jeffries from Daniel Grobe and Jordan Born and in the overall points series it was again Austin who took the winning honours from Daniel while Steve DeArmon completed the overall top 3 result.

Ronnefalk tops first seeding round in Sweden

David Ronnefalk has topped the first of the two rounds of seeding practice at the 1:8 Offroad European Championships in Sweden.  The HB Racing driver would become the first driver to run a sub 2-minute time for their fastest 3-consecutive laps around the Gröndal Ring track with yesterday’s Free Practice pace setter Elliott Boots his closest challenger. Improving on his sudden finding of speed in yesterday’s final practice, Juan Carlos Canas would complete the Top 3. With some of yesterday’s pace setters struggling this morning, Darren Bloomfield 12th and Yannick Aigoin 9th fastest, P4 would come from João Figueiredo followed by fellow Portuguese driver Carlos Durães with Italian youngsters Riccardo Berton and David Ongaro 6th and 7th respectively.

Wataru Takashiro TQs & wins Nitro Shock Race

The recent Nitro Shock Race was held at the RC Land 23 track, home of this year’s JMRCA All-Japan Nationals. Kyosho’s Wataru Takashiro would take the overall TQ after the qualifiers and he also came out fastest in the 30-minute main final. Yusuke Sugiura came in a close 2nd while Kazuya Tanaka in 3rd rounded out the all-Kyosho podium.

Imbue introduce MBX7R brass & alloy option parts

Imbue, known for their popular brass shock absorber pistons, have introduced a handful of option parts for the Mugen MBX7R buggy. First up is the brass +20g C-block. The option part is aimed at making a driver’s race day much simpler as, instead of fiddling with weights, the weighted C-block makes it more of a fit and forget upgrade. The part is usable with the original suspension inserts and at +20g of weight it is the choice of top Mugen racers.

Coming from Team C Racing and made for the company’s 2WD off-road vehicles is an aluminium steering set. Machined from high-quality material and coming with a ball-raced steering plate the set is a direct replacement and it makes for greatly improved steering emphasis due to the sturdy construction and the servo-saver-less design.

Kyosho Optima 51T machined nylon spur gear

Kyosho have introduced a machined nylon spur gear for the Optima 4WD re-release vintage buggy. Made from durable yet light material the 51T specification spur makes for an optimised gear ratio when using higher power brushless motors while the tough nylon material improved overall durability compared to the standard 61T composite gear.

Muchmore Fleta ZX V2 ER Fixtiming Spec BL motor

Muchmore are busy adding more variants of the all-new Fleta ZX V2 brushless motor to their portfolio. The latest outcome is the ER Fixtiming Spec motor that builds on the same teardown as the Type-ER but its fixed timing design makes it ideal for spec racing classes and as handout motor. It comes as 13.5T, 17.5T and 21.5T variant and will hit stores very soon.

Futaba/OS Engines Nitro Challenge – Report

The 11th Annual Futaba/OS Engines Nitro Challenge was hosted by St. Louis Dirt Burners in Missouri. The concept of the race is that it allows the locals to experience an awesome racing event while adding a terrific chance to meet some of the industry pros to learn from the legends. This year’s aces was Futaba’s Ryan Lutz and OS Speed’s Adam Drake; definitely two iconic legends of the industry. The layout is always a lot of fun at Dirt Burners and this year’s layout was smooth and flowy with an added dose of speed making a terrific and challenging track for all racers and skill levels. The weekend started off wet, but the track crew did a fantastic job and got everything rolling smooth.
