Mächler takes opening qualifier in New York

Max Mächler has capped off the first day of competitive action at the Montech New York Grand Prix by taking the opening round of AbsoluteHobbyz 1:12 Modified qualifying.  Third fastest in seeding, the 1:12 Spec World Champion took his Awesomatix to the fastest time around at the 360V2 track ahead of Xray’s Keven Hebert and top seed Kemp Anderson, the German’s advantage at the end of the 8-minute run 2.2-seconds.  Owner of the track and the man behind the Montech NYGP, which is now in its sixth edition, Donny Lia would post a P4 run for the round ahead of the CRC of Andrew Knapp and Prodigy of Josh Cyrul.  Mächler would complete a TQ double by also taking the eXcelerate 13.5 1:12 class first round ahead of Steven McNichols.

Anderson top seed at Montech NYGP

Kemp Anderson is the Top Seed at the Montech NYGP, the Awesomatix driver fastest in both Modified 1:12 and Touring Car after the two seeding rounds.  The 6th running of the event at 360v2 in New Rochelle, New York, the US driver topped the AbsoluteHobbyz Modified 1:12 class from the Xray of Keven Hebert, the Canadian having set the pace in the first seeding round and unable to improve in SP2. Making a return trip to the NYGP having missed last year’s edition, Max Mächler would complete the Top 3. Based off drivers’ fastest 3-consecutive laps, New Yorker John Themelis would take his Excelerate RC Prodigy 12 to the fourth fastest time ahead of Josh Cyrul, the veteran US racer also at the controls of his newest design project.  In the Speedzone Modified Touring Car class it was a similar story with Hebert taking the first round before Anderson upped the pace in the second one, the gap between the two rivals 2/10ths of a second.

Capricorn GT5 RS Large Scale Touring Car

Well known nitro onroad chassis manufacturer Capricorn has entered the large scale market, the Italian company revealing images of its new GT5 RS Touring Car.  With Patrizio Rossi having informed us at the 1:8 Onroad World Championships in Japan last year that he was working on adding a Large Scale chassis to his company’s range of cars, Capricorn hasn’t given any specific details on the GT5 RS opting instead to just publish images of its newest creation. During the Summer Capricorn announced the signing of Alex D’angelo to its race team, the 1:8 GT World Championship Top Qualifier expected to lead the racing programme for their entry into the Large Scale market.

1up Racing ‘Drive Fast’ T-shirt

Best known for its RC racing accessories, Randy Caster’s 1up Racing has got creative with their latest apparel with the release of this ‘Drive Fast’ T-shirt.  The tee makes a statement at your track or out on the town,  with a vintage 1up racer that drove a little too fast adorned on the chest and back.  The American company’s signature 1up badge logo rests on the right sleeve to cap off the design.  Printed on a premium warm grey 60/40 Cotton/Polyester blend shirt, it has a soft, velvety feel that’s cozy like a flannel but doesn’t pill like one.

Ielasi Tuned Anti Vibration Kit

A simple and small idea from Ielasi Tuned is this Anti-vibration Kit dedicated for 1:8 Onroad use and their 2185Factory muffler.  The kit is composed of two springs and two collars that are used to fix the muffler to the car, dampening the vibrations generated by the engine that could cause the muffler manifold to break.  Depending on the length of the muffler support wire (each model has a different one) you can use either two collars or just one to fix the muffler.

Sanwa ExzesZ III Stick Radio

Sanwa has unveiled a new version of its legendary stick radio with the famed Japanese radio manufacturer displaying the ExzesZ III on its stand at the 62nd All Japan Model & Hobby Show in Tokyo.  While the stick radio has been mostly superseded by wheel radios in recent years, a certain Davide Ongaro has kept the original form of transmitter very relevant using Sanwa’s previous ExzesZ model to steer himself to three consecutive 1:8 Offroad World Championship titles.  While no details are published for the new ExzesZ III, the official Japanese flier states it supports SXR mode with FH5/FH55U for even better response making it the ‘world’s fastest response stick radio’.

Excelerate RC Prodigy 1:10 World GT-R pan car

Having announced its entry as a car manufacturer in July with its Prodigy 12 1:12 pan car, Excelerate RC has brought its new 1:10 World GT-R class contender along to the Montech NYGP to display this weekend.  With World GT-R WGT a popular class in the US, the second car release from the Wisconsin based company, which is aptly named the WGT-R, is based off much of the 1:12 car and is due to go on sale in around 3 weeks time – some of the car’s metal parts still in production.  With Excelerate RC a partnership between Ken Lupi and veteran racer & car designer Josh Cyrul, it originally started out around 1-year ago to produce RC Drag racing tyres.  Racing 1:12 himself at the NYGP, Cyrul said the WGT-R is essentially a big version of their 1:12.  Like the Prodigy 1:12, it features a stiff high grip 2.5mm Aluminium chassis with a steel roll plate and steel pivot plate helping to lower the car’s centre of gravity.

MonTech New York Grand Prix – Preview

This weekend the 360V2 track plays host to the sixth edition of the annual MonTech New York Grand Prix where 2023 IFMAR 1:12 World Championship Top Qualifier Kemp Anderson heads the entry.  The nearest thing RC will get to having a race in Time Square, the track just a 20-minute train ride from the centre of the City That Never Sleeps, the Montech NYGP is the vision of long time 1:12 racer Donny Lia.  RedRC first got to know Lia when he was a leading contender at the 2014 1:12 World Championship in Florida where he would qualify third behind Top Qualifier & defending Champion Naoto Matsukura and Marc Rheinard who would go on to take the win.  Rheinard would later also become a Montech NYGP Champion in Mod Touring Car at the 18,000 square feet 360v2 venue with other previous international visitors including Ronald Volker, Alexander Hagberg and David Spashett.  Having attracted almost 300 entries at its peak until Covid broke that momentum, Lia is keen to build the race back up to its former levels.  Although the proximity of this year’s IFMAR ISTC World Championship in California has ruled out a number of factory entries this year, with Anderson, Xray’s Keven Hebert and 1:12 Spec World Champion Max Machler among the entry an exciting weekend of racing is expected on a track which is proving a big hit with racers.
