Awesomatix A12X & A12WC Pan Car kits

In an exciting week of news of new 1:12 cars, Awesomatix has just released not one but two new versions of its A12.  The first of these, the A12WC, is a refined version of the previous A12 kit firstly introduced during the 2020 World Championship and recently crowned IFMAR Spec World Champion in the hands of Awesomatix’s team manager Max Mächler.  The A12WC kit includes the proven A12 concept where the rear spring action is controlled by the flexing of the chassis itself assisted by a pair of coil  side springs that also act as an additional rear spring.  The chassis shape is new and has been refined to further enhance the flex distribution while also incorporating the rear brace.  The second released, named A12X, brings its design slightly more towards traditional 12th scale cars where side and rear spring actions are independent. This is achieved thanks to a built-in coil spring inside the rear damper and new side coil springs positioned at the very front of the chassis.  The new steel chassis brings the CG even lower and allows for a narrower and sleeker shape to the whole design.

IFMAR Large Scale World Championship – CANCELLED

IFMAR has just announced that the Large Scale World Championship scheduled for October in Sydney, Australia, has been cancelled.  The unanimous joint decision was made between IFMAR, FEMCA, EFRA and RCRA due to lack of entries for the race.  The cancellation of what would have been the 12th Worlds for the category, marks the first time in the history of IFMAR that a World Championship has been cancelled due to low numbers, only 9 driving committing to the race.  Having dealt with NSWRCRCC last year on their excellent running of the 1:8 GT World Championship which Red RC attended, and having followed closely their efforts to try to put on a successful Large Scale Worlds it is a disappointing outcome for all involved.  In the announcement on Facebook IFMAR stated,  ‘It is with disappointment that for the first time in IFMAR history we are forced to cancel an event due to lack of competitors.  The 2024 1/5th Scale IFMAR Worlds in Sydney will not be proceeding.  With just over 3 months to go we only have the formal commitment of 9 drivers to attend the race, with such low numbers of drivers it is not viable nor responsible to commit to run a World Championship.  This was a joint, unanimous decision, between IFMAR, FEMCA, EFRA, RCRA (who the committed racers represented) and the organizing club NSWRCRCC.  With 3 months until the event, yes there may have been last minute entries, however, even with the number of racers at double or triple it is still not enough for a viable event and it is not responsible or fair to allow the organizing club to take on such risk.  IFMAR and the BLOCS will discuss the further running of Large Scale events in the future and try to find a solution.  The Host Club is still committed to running an event within the same date schedule as the cancelled World Championship and are working with FEMCA for an alternative event. We encourage all large scale racers to look out for these details and support the club if you are able to.’

2024 FIRC – 2nd Edition Announcement

After a hugely successful inaugural running of the Foshan International Invitational RC Championship last December, hosts GDC Indoor Race Club in Guangdong, China, has confirmed the date for the 2024 edition.  Confirming the 2nd edition will run on December 5-8, a week earlier than last year, the FIRC Championship was created with the goal of providing local racers with an opportunity to see some of the best drivers in the world in action while also getting to race against them.  The inaugural event did exactly that with Mugen Seiki’s Ronald Volker coming away as the winner ahead of China’s Vening Zhuo and Japan’s Yugo Nagashima.  Opened in May of 2023,  GDC Indoor track is 800 square metres making it the largest professional indoor onroad track in China.  Also housing an offroad carpet track, later this month it will also host the FEMCA 1:10 Offroad Championship, the governing body of RC racing that represents 15 nations in Asia and Australasia bringing back the category title after the race’s absence for a number of years.

JConcepts RC10B7 servo mount bracket

JConcepts has introduced a new servo mount bracket for Team Associated’s RC10B7 line of vehicles.  Constructed of lightweight aluminium,  the simple and sleek design with performance and tracking advantages have spoken volumes throughout the years on the racetrack.  Setting the trim on any RC car is crucial but perhaps even more critical is for the trim to remain consistent throughout a race.  The mount fits snug inside the chassis servo mounting area increasing the support while the 2 screw mounting locations are beefy in design and zeroed in for a direct mount to the chassis.  The brace has locations on each side for included set screws to help align and maintain servo position during racing conditions, crashes, and hard hits.  The set screws are intended to touch-off against the servo case and provide additional support retaining the servo in the intended position which helps maintain consistent steering trim.

Excelerate RC Prodigy 12 1:12 – Final Prototype

Josh Cyrul, one of America’s most experienced electric onroad racers and an accomplished car designer, has posted on his social media images of the new Excelerate RC Prodigy 12 1:12 chassis he has penned.  In the post Cyrul explains, “This is the final prototype fitting of parts so some of the anodize colors are being switched around as well as the shapes and fit of a few parts but everything is in production with a good portion of production already finished.  I’m sure people will say it’s a copy… Until you flip it over and realize it’s for sure not. A huge % of this car is actually based off cars I drove and started designing in the mid-late 90’s. From the my heavily modified Corally F1 car to the TQ Eagle of the early 90’s and all the hand dremal’d garage experiments along the way, this one is a heavy mix of concepts I’ve tried and really wanted to put together into a singular package.  Steep learning curve ahead as we learn setups for various races and carpets but I’m pretty happy with the foundation we have to work with.  More details coming soon…”  The multiple ROAR National Champion finished up by announcing that he is also working on a second Excelerate RC chassis release saying, ‘Oh yeah, and if you think this is cool…. Just wait until you see the F1 car coming next!!”
